Trip Overview
Biking visit different ethnic groups on the bank of route 3A as Lanten, Tai Dam and Khmu, for the first day stay with Khmu family, In the morning on the next day led by a Khmu guide who takes you through the centre of the National Protected Arae-an ASEAN declared Natural Heritage Site. You will be able to see many different kinds of non-timber forest products (NTP’s), to learn about birds, animals, plants, and trees of the jungle tropical forest. Also you a likely to hear and perhaps fortunate enough to see mountain forest animals, staying overnight deep in our bamboo camp located on the banks of Nam Ha River and enjoy traditional Lao food prepared with selected forest spices.

Day 1: Luang Namtha Valley-Ban Nam Ha. Approx. 5-6 hours
Meet at the office and select your bicycle, before leaving for visit Luang Namtha Stupa, on the top you will see Luang Namtha city valley, next continue cycling to Ban Nam Ngaen to observe distillation of the famous Lao rice whiskey. From this village it is only a short walk up to the top of the That Poum Pouk pagoda to see good view of Nam Tha river valley, continue cycling to Ban Luang Khone to visit the village’s ancient temple and then visit an exciting Lanten village museum operated by an old man. After lunch, continue cycling to visit Khmu village of Ban Chaleunsouk and the final ride along road A3, prior to arriving at Ban Nam Ha (Khmu village) your homestay village. After dinner and listen some short story stay overnight at your homestay.

Day 2: Ban Nam Ha-Nam Ha River Camp.  Approx. 5-6 hours.

The second day’s pace is moderate though the Nam Ha NPA where the guide’s knowledge of edible and medicinal plants will be demonstrated... You will be hiking uphill to see several massive old trees and diver forest plants. If you travel quietly you may see some wild animals such as monkeys, wild goats and wild pigs. The traditional lunch will provide on the trail and your will arrival the bamboo camp around 4:30 pm and overnight alongside the Nam Ha River. Besides resting, you are free to go fishing for dinner with your Khmu guide or stroll around the camp or opt for a refreshing swim in the Nam Ha River alongside your camp.

Day 3: Nam Ha River Camp-Nam Ha NPA-Luang Namtha. Approx. 5-6 hours
In the early morning you are likely to hear many kinds of animals communicating such as bear, monkey, barking dear, gibbon, wild pigs and jungle fowl from the higher mountain tops or if you are especially fortunate you may see them moving through the forest. Before breakfast, early risers are free to take a walk around the camp. After breakfast prepared by our Khmu guide, you cross the Nam Ha River and hike uphill through forest. Lunch will be prepared in the traditional way along the forest path. The guides can boil water and make soup in bamboo cooking vessels. They will encourage you to take part in the preparation of the meal, showing you how to construct simple spoons and chopsticks from bamboo and leaves. They will also brew a medicinal tea from wild plants collected along the way. After lunch, you will have an easy two hour hike down the mountain slope until you arrive at the Jong stream, where your driver will be waiting to transport you back to Luang Namtha.
