One-day trip/trekking tour to Nam Kat waterfall and pristine forest

The Nam Kat Waterfall Tour is a wonderful one day trip for those who love to experience pristine forests, wild waters and the unique vegetation of Northern Laos.

The Lao adventures starts at the central market of Oudomxay where the guides and visitors together explore original Lao snacks and food to bring for the picnic close to the waterfalls at lunch time. After driving for one hour into the hills south of Oudomxay the trek starts in the middle of nature. Nearby is the Khamu village of Ban Kat, where a local guide familiar with the local peculiarities will join the group.

The walk brings you through more intensive used forests and past some brooks where usually men do some cast net fishing. This fishing method is most popular and never done by women.

The fishermen are always very successful and catch a characteristically big variety of colorful small fish. The Mekong River and its tributaries are known as one of the biodiversity hotspots all over the world and are third in fish species diversity after the Amazon and Congo River Basins.

The tour proceeds through pristine forests. The local guides will be very happy to introduce a variety of non-timber forest products (NTFP) characteristically collected by the local population.

We offer two slightly different tours to the area of Nam Kat waterfall. The trip to the waterfall (No1) includes less walking and thus is less exhausting while the trekking tour (no2) will take you to the Pha Daeng Cliffs where you can enjoy a wonderful over the valley. The trip (No1) has a difficulty of 3/10 and you will always walk on a small path whereas the trekking tour (no2) has a difficulty of 7/10 and includes some climbing.
