Restaurants in Phongsaly Town
Several restaurants serve Yunnan-style food. There are no western restaurants, but you can find bread at the market (from 15:00) or at the bakery in the old town; pancakes at the coffee shop; fried potatoes at several restaurants; Thai yoghurts in a shop (also selling shoes) on the main road, in the curve after Laojern Restaurant or Vietnamese yoghurts at the market or sometimes at Yee Hua Restaurant.

LAOPER RESTAURANT
Located 20m above the tuktuk station, it serves Yunnanese food. The owners are very welcoming and speak a little English. The food is freshly prepared in a kitchen in front of you. Just point at the vegetables and the meat (inside the fridge in the kitchen) you would like to eat , and you will get a tasty dish!

YEE HUA RESTAURANT
Popular for its ice-cream, this family restaurant serves good Lao food. It is located on the main road, close to the tuktuk station, next to the red ATM.

LAOJERN RESTAURANT
Located on the main road just down from the market, this Chinese-run restaurant serves good food. Its menu is an attraction in itself with its poetic English translations…

PHONSAART RESTAURANT
This restaurant is located on the main road, ~400m down from the market and the tuktuk station. Mrs. Chantha’s (the Lao owner) speciality is kaopiad, one of the many kinds of noodle soups.

LAO RESTAURANT (opposite Laojern restaurant)
This small family-run restaurant serves excellent Lao food. It is famous for its jeo suki (sweet-and-sour peanuts sauce) served with the noodle soups, but also makes fried rice, fried noodles, papaya salad, fried vegetables, and many more.

COFFEE SHOP
Located between Phongsaly Hotel and the Lao Development Bank, this tiny shop serves some western food, such as pancakes, bread, and spaghettis, as well as simple Lao dishes. And coffee, of course!
